The foundations of Raisio’s new production facility have been laid

In July, food company Raisio initiated the construction work on its new production facility, intended for the development and manufacturing of new plant-based value added products. The foundations of the facility were laid in Raisio on 9 September 2019.

In June 2019, Raisio announced its intention to invest approximately EUR 45 million in a new production facility. The facility is the most significant investment Raisio has made in decades and is being built near to the company’s headquarters in Raisio, Finland. This investment is Raisio’s way of responding to the strong growth in demand for plant-based food, particularly in the European markets.

‘Our carbon-neutral industrial area is expanding with this agile and adaptable production facility that supports growth in a manner that is in keeping with the company’s overall strategy. This investment will take Raisio’s abilities to launch innovative, plant-based products to a new level. We have already begun the process of recruiting key personnel for product development and production’, states Raisio President and CEO Pekka Kuusniemi

Raisio’s new production facility will focus on added value products in which oats as well as a wide variety of plant-based raw materials can be utilised. At full capacity, the facility will employ 30 to 35 people, some of whom will work in product development. Raisio estimates that the first products made in its new facility will be available in stores during 2021. All products will be responsibly packaged using eco-friendly solutions.

A facility born through collaboration

Those present for the laying of the cornerstones of the foundation included Ari Korhonen, Mayor of the City of Raisio, Pekka Kuusniemi, President and CEO of Raisio plc, and Ilkka Mäkelä, Chairman of the Board for Raisio plc.

We also wanted all company employees who are involved with the realisation of the new production facility to join us for the occasion. At this phase, there are already dozens of Raisio employees working hard to see the project proceed. Our personnel has enthusiastically taken on this challenge to ensure that we achieve a top-grade facility that turns out interesting products’, Kuusniemi adds.
